10 Questions with Josh

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hello, I’m Josh Rogers - better known as DJ J. O. Dolla - founder of Golden Handss, a DJ company that was created to customize music and entertainment packages that are best suited for weddings. Ever since I became a DJ, I knew that weddings were the type of event that I wanted to specialize in. I enjoy making someone’s most special day of their life, even better, through music. I got into doing weddings because I wanted to combine a day full of love with a day full of celebration.

2. What's your experience as a wedding DJ? How many weddings have you done?

I’ve done countless weddings, from large to small, in my 20+ years of experience. Not only have the weddings that I’ve DJ’d been diverse in size, but in genre and age ranges, too. This has provided my with a vast range of experience.

3. How far in advance do couples need to book your services?

While I prefer to be booked far in advance, to provide ample time to communicate, customize and modify, and prepare, I am flexible enough to accommodate last-minute bookings. With that said, I try my best to ensure rapid responses to inquiries, so that last minute bookings do not have to be compromised.

4. What's your rate? What does that include?

My rates are based on a number of different factors and variables. These factors include venue size - the bigger the venue, the more equipment I may need; location - not only distance traveled but setup location(s), primarily when the ceremony and reception are in two different locations. Additionally, there may be up-charges for add-ons, such as lighting and fog, etc.

The beauty of a one-stop-shop entertainment business is, there is no such thing as a “set rate”; everyone is able to customize a package that fits their needs, specifically, which ensures you get everything necessary, and not pay for any service that is not needed.

5. Are you available to travel if needed?

My years of DJ experience includes travel all around the country and even the world, DJing at plenty of different cities and countries. I do not mind traveling because it gives me the same joy in participating in someone’s greatest day ever. Of course a package can be customized to include traveling expense, eliminating a worry for the customer.

6. How would you describe your style?

My style is diverse and flexible. While my mission is to accommodate the bride and grooms requests and likes, primarily, I also aim to fill dance floors. With this open-mindedness, I’m able to gather the “feel of the crowd”, and go from there, while giving them maximum music experience.

7. What's your backup plan if there's an equipment malfunction? Do you bring backup equipment?

I understand that things happen with equipment and technology. While this is not common, it’s possible. However, the show must go on. Equipment malfunction should not stop a good time. For that, I bring backup equipment to ensure that a malfunction does not impede the wedding or reception in any way.

8. What's your sick day policy?

A sick day takes on a whole new meaning during these tough times with health in the world. The contract that is signed by both parties guarantees my participation. While a sudden sickness is certainly possible, communication is key. I stay in constant communication with not only the bride and groom, but the wedding coordinator, to provide any unforeseen updates about necessary changes due to sickness. If it’s absolutely impossible for me to DJ, because of sickness, I am able to deploy a backup DJ at no additional cost or worry.

9. How do you motivate a shy crowd to dance? What do you do to motivate the crowd if nobody is dancing?

Motivating a crowd comes with experience from getting a vibe from that crowd. It’s important to watch them to obtain what they like and don’t like, instead of just playing what I like or think they’d like. Not only through music and song selection but MC’ing, too, which is such an underrated part of the experience. On the mic, I’m able to pump people up, get them hyped, and even make them laugh, loosening the shyness in the room.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

I collect a small deposit to secure booking, along with a contract. This ensures not only my commitment and professionalism, but the customer’s trust and patronage in me. The small deposit is non-refundable and the balance is not due until the day of the wedding. That way, if it is canceled, there is nothing owed.
