1. Introduction: What's your story?
I've been a musician since I was 13. I never even considered being a DJ until my mid 20s when a friend asked me to help him with a birthday party and taught me a bit about the craft. I felt so ignorant for being surprised at how satisfying DJing can be! Soon after this experience I got married. The whole day was fantastic, but the dance hour was the glue that held together the whole occasion. I realized I should bring this type of personal experience to other couples. A wedding is an important day in a family's life. Everyone deserves to have an amazing wedding and I want to help make everyone's wedding day a memorable one.
2. What's your experience as a wedding DJ? How many weddings have you done?
When I first started weddings I worked with other companies for about 6 months so I could learn from experienced vendors. I started DJ The Mood in early 2016. Since then I would estimate that I've DJ'd 200 or so weddings.
3. How far in advance do couples need to book your services?
Just depends on your date. If it's a popular season (Mar-May and Sept-Nov) then the earlier the better, but I've DJ'd a couple weddings that I booked a day or two before the event.
4. What's your rate? What does that include?
My introductory package starts at $850. That includes: a sound system with DJ gear, dance floor lighting, a wireless handheld microphone, and MC services for up to 6 hours. You can add additional a/v services if needed like: a second sound system, a lapel mic, uplighting, a fog machine, a projector setup, karaoke service, monograms, etc.
5. Are you available to travel if needed?
Yep!
6. How would you describe your style?
As a wedding DJ I always keep in mind that I am working for someone else's day; it's not my performance. I generally don't do any sort of remixes or mashups at weddings (although, I can if someone would like me to), just keep the rhythm and flow going with smooth beatmatching and transitions. Alot of times at weddings I'm asked to incorporate several genres of music and I've been complemented about my ability to ease into genres and not abruptly switch between extremes.
7. What's your backup plan if there's an equipment malfunction? Do you bring backup equipment?
I do carry backup equipment. I always have extra cables, microphones, and speakers on hand. And absolute worse case scenario if my laptop crashes I do have DJ software on my cell phone.
8. What's your sick day policy?
It honestly has not been an issue over the last 6 years, but if I do get sick I do have several DJ partners I work with and trust in their professionalism.
9. How do you motivate a shy crowd to dance? What do you do to motivate the crowd if nobody is dancing?
If a dance floor isn't moving I switch up the genres. After about 45 seconds of a song you can realize if a crowd will dance to it or not. I've never had to be a "hype man" type of MC to bring people out to the dance floor; guests at every wedding I've been to seem very eager to dance.
10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?
My deposits are non-refundable, but if you have to reschedule any service fees you've paid will apply to the new date. If someone cancels a contract 15 days or less the full service fee is due (unless there is an extreme circumstance in the family). If someone isn't happy with my DJ services I will refund a bit of the service fee.
