1. Introduction: What's your story?
Tanya Amelia here! I am the lead artist and owner of Faces By Amelia Cosmetic Designs, a mobile artistry service in Arizona that caters to the client who wants to get amazing makeup and hairstyling in the comforts of their home, hotel or wedding venue. My origin story all begins with me, fresh out of undergrad at ASU, in a depressing job that wasn't utilizing my best skills or creative itch.
The same week I wanted to put in my two weeks the company did a big lay off and there I was the world at my feet and I knew then I wanted to take a leap of faith.
I started going to networking events, joined creative co-ops, built up portfolio and freelanced. I eventually moved from avant-garde print, to special occasion/everyday then eventually added bridal. In the beginning it was all about having a career that used my artistry and technical ability, it wasn't until later that I realized my passion is really in client experience. Having a background in customer service taught me the skills necessary to hear my clients and deliver results.
It's my driving force every day to make a lasting connection with people and creating memorable experiences. I want each an every client to walk away feeling pampered, confident and seen.
2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?
As a full time artist from 2014, I transitioned into the bridal industry in 2017 beginning as freelance artist for Bridal 4 the Win followed by Beglammed, now Priv. There I worked a multitude of weddings as a team artist doing both makeup and bridal hairstyling. I began taking on my own couples after wanting to speak to a specific client. I also worked as a Master Artist for Makiaj Beauty in 2019 and came back as a team artist in 2021. I invite all of my brides to share their photo galleries with me when they get them back from their photographers.
3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?
All of the packages are custom created to cater to what my couple/bride needs. Packages are built once a client fills out an inquiry form which specifies the total number of services, kinds of services and other need to know information. This is the brides opportunity to share with me what she most values and in what ways we can be best utilized. My most common requests are hair and makeup for Bride + bridesmaids, Moms + Bride, Makeup Only. Airbrushed makeup pricing is also available upon request.
All packages will include a bridal trial or preview, as well as a consultation (phone/video), touch kit for bride, travel and fees for all inclusive pricing. On such a big day where budgeting is important, the last thing the couple needs is hidden fees. Not only will you be given an al a carte menu to see how each service is priced, but you'll also have options of varying price ranges for you to consider from. 4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?
Our team of professionals will meet you on location with full set up, including hair and makeup kits, studio chairs, proper PPE for Covid-19 safety and clean sanitized tools. We will also have ample lighting to accommodate any dark or dim get ready rooms. Regardless of the weather or if you happen to be more emotionally inclined, we use techniques and products for water resistance, sweat proofing and winter blushing. We make it our priority to take the stress out the of getting ready process.
On wedding day you can expect myself, as lead artist, and my assistant Andrea to arrive, smiles on faces, Bluetooth speakers in hand. For parties or brides booking more than 8 services, a team artist or stylist will be automatically added into your package to ensure a timely service and smoother operation. To speak frankly, I'd have to be raptured to miss a wedding I am scheduled for. While I do understand the unexpected could happen, my anxiety has divinely equipped me with the skillset of over planning for all scenarios. I have NEVER missed a wedding in all my years in the industry and do not intend to. Should my car break down I will Uber. Should a team artist not show or have an emergency, I've personally trained my assistant in hair styling, sanitation, skin prep and photography and she can lend help where ever needed. Should I die, God forbid, I have a refund policy in my bridal contract.
5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?
Because all services are performed on-location, a travel fee will be calculated and added to you bridal package. A fee of $150 is added to your package covering travel for both your trial and wedding day for all local Arizona brides. For destination weddings travel fee is calculated by mileage. Flight and lodging may apply.
6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?
Trial appointments are included in each package. During the trial appointment, the lead artist and bride will have an in depth consultation as well as full beauty service. It is an opportunity for the bride and lead artist to become better acquainted, discuss expectations and skin needs. Brides are encouraged to provide photos of looks that resonate with their aesthetic, to ask questions and to provide information about how you want your morning of to flow. It is our highest priority to create a relaxing and fun experience for you throughout the process. For brides who are on the fence and need more of an audition type of scenario can also book me for their engagement photos or non-bridal related service prior to committing to a package. However, this will not replace your trial service.
7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?
During each consultation clients are asked about their daily product use, skin type, if they have sensitivities or allergies etc. Products are selected based on each individuals needs to address various problem areas (oily, dry, scarred, textured skin, etc.) Notable brands include: Nars, Black Opal, TooFaced, Armani, Estee Lauder, Tarte and more.
Clients are welcome to bring their own products or lashes, if they prefer their artist uses a particular product (ex: moisturizer/foundation) in conjunction with their professional kit. However, use of the client's product does not affect the cost of service.
8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?
Each client's skin requires a different skin prep and products. Based on the products used during the application, use of setting techniques, powders or sprays will be used to increase the longevity of the overall wear of the makeup look. A touch up kit is also included with each package for touch ups between the ceremony and reception meal. Having experience in working with photographers throughout my career has helped me to perfect the skin to look great in photos as well as in person under different lighting conditions.
9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?
When creating a day of timeline, I like to allot 60min of each service. Typically a service will take anywhere from 45-60 based on the clients individual needs or the complexity of the look. Typically a schedule is a 5-6hr service, however this could vary based on the size of the party and number of services being performed. Should a bride want a look change or touch ups following the ceremony additional hours can be booked with the lead or team artists if available.
10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?
Cancellation. A cancellation means the Event date has been changed, cancelled, or postponed.
a) Client Cancellation.
Your Reservation Fee reserves the contracted Services for your Event. If you decide to cancel your Services, for any reason, you will not receive a refund. All cancellations must be submitted in writing to Company via email to: [email protected]
