1. Introduction: What's your story?
Hi, I am Maeion Bryant, Founder, and Owner of Maeion Beauty & Company. During the twenty years in the beauty industry, I have perfected my skill and enjoy sharing it with my clients. My career as a makeup artist began in Seattle, Washington when Nordstrom Department Store hired me to work as an assistant stylist in their catalog department. Nordstrom’s training gave me multiple skills, confidence, and a keen eye for detail. I knew this was my world! After leaving Nordstrom, I developed experience in retail cosmetics with Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue, while cultivating great and lasting relationships with my clients.
I have always enjoyed giving advice to my customers in all aspects of fashion and beauty. Over the years, because I insist on personalized service, my client base has diversified and expanded considerably. My company offers varied services, the bridal is particularly special to me. I have the most amazing stories to share about styling a bride's makeup and hair on their special day. I make it a practice to stay in touch with my clients. Besides their wedding day, my brides have booked me for corporate presentations, family portraits, branding images and so much more. Sustained client relationships are special they say a lot about how pleased my clients are with the services my company offers. It is one of the many reasons why I love my business.
2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?
My experience working with bridal hair & makeup began in the early nineties. I received my certification at Von Lee International School of Aesthetics. I continue to train and update my skills learning new techniques that are relevant each season and I build my portfolio from the referrals of satisfied customers. Brides have hired me for destination weddings to Jamaica, New Orleans, North Carlina, and Costa Rica. I am very skilled at my craft and I relish overcoming the toughest challenges. I believe in being on time and taking care of my clients in a timely manner. I make sure there is a detailed schedule for the day of the wedding for my makeup and hair department. There are well over a hundred brides in my portfolio. I have a remarkably diverse clientele fortunately my team and I are very skilled at working with different nationalities. We are skilled at styling hair doing up-dos, flowing curls, or working with natural hair.
3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?
I offer a basic makeup package for a minimum of six individuals this includes the bride which is priced at $900. The deposit is $300.00 to secure the date. The basic package includes lashes and airbrush makeup for each person in the package. Trial runs cost $100.00 plus travel. I offer an ala carte list for multiple services, such as makeup for engagement photos, trial runs for the mother of the bride, and jr. bride's maids. Hair packages are set up according to the style and length of hair. Each bride has different needs, for further details please refer to my website, I would love to find out more about your special day!
4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?
Yes, great question. I have a team of skilled professional hair and makeup artists. Each one comes with over five years of experience, they have assisted with hair and makeup. If I have a party of more than six people, I bring a team member. When hair and makeup services are requested I determine the necessary coverage needed for the bridal party. My team members are all experienced makeup artists and they are able to handle emergencies. I have full confidence in my team they have worked on multiple jobs such as commercial print, video productions, and many wedding assignments. If an emergency were to arise, I have a backup artist available to handle any situation. I assure my bride would not be disappointed on her precious occasion.
5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?
I have a studio on wheels it is a fully equipped mobile studio. This gives us the flexibility to meet my clients at their chosen location. Generally, I bring the mobile for the trial run or location engagement shoots. On the day of the wedding, while getting ready at the hotel, I come in and set up to service the party. The mobile service is great for home or wedding venues, each person comes inside the mobile one at a time to have their makeup done. There is a fee of $40.00 dollars for local travel within forty-five miles. Further distances beyond forty-five to one hundred miles or more starting cost $100.00 depending on the distance. If the wedding has an early start before six am there is an additional cost of $100.00. If an overnight stay in the hotel is requested, the bride pays for the cost of the room as well as parking. We fully clean and sanitize the mobile to be safe.
6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?
Yes, a makeup trial is recommended. Usually, no later than six months before the wedding a bride will want to make sure there is enough time to make a decision on who's doing her make-up. If she waits too close to the date, she may have a difficult time finding a skilled artist. During our session, I ask particularly important questions to understand her comfort level with makeup. Some brides like full glam and others are comfortable with a natural look. The trial run is where you get to know what is important on her big day. I listen and give suggestions that best fit her style, she is welcome to bring her mom or a friend. I also suggest sharing her images with the other ladies, which is always nice to receive feedback. I have a website where the bride and her party can purchase lipstick for touch-ups or whatever they need before or during the day of the wedding.
7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?
I use various products some of my own brand which consists of having a full line of skincare, foundations mascara, lipstick, and glosses. Danessa Myricks, Pat McGrath, Viesart cosmetics are a few of my favorites, I only use airbrush makeup since it is the most sanitary and it gives a natural finish. I use wispy lashes for brides unless the bride requests fuller ones. I do not have a problem with the bride using her own makeup. I am very conscious of how I use my makeup, between clients, due to covid-19, I strictly use disposable applicators, loose powders so there is no cross-contamination.
8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?
When I receive a note from my bride the first thing brides usually mention is how long the make-up lasts. The benefits are, it does not rub off, it gives a flawless finish, I custom blend the colors so they match perfectly. My ability to softly sculpt the face looks amazing in photos. I can apply soft or bold it all depends on the bride and what she wants to achieve. In the end, I want the groom and her guests to recognize the bride as she walks down the aisle.
9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?
I usually take an hour for the bride, and forty minutes for each person in the group. I stay to make sure everyone is beautifully done especially the bride! I mentioned earlier I plan the schedule for makeup and hair so everything runs smoothly the day of the wedding. I must add I have never arrived late or finished later than the expected time. If requested I will stay for touch-ups before photos. There is an additional cost for this service which is outlined in my ala carte prices.
10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?
I require a $300.00 deposit to secure the date. There are no refunds after a 48-hour cancellation notice.
