1. Introduction: What's your story?
Hello I'm Megan, owner and lead makeup artist at Blushed Studios! I got started in a small town doing my own makeup when it got to the point that all the people that I knew started asking me to do their makeup for events they were going to. That's where the passion grew and I got the courage to start my own makeup company! I did my first every professional wedding in 2016 and have been going strong every since!
I love doing wedding makeup because it helps women feel confident and beautiful in their own skin on their biggest day of their lives! I have such a huge passion for it that I'm always on top of the new trends and new/best makeup on the market. Most would call me a makeup junkie and that's where I get my drive from! I love the artistic nature behind doing makeup and the challenge of a different face sitting in my chair every time. I love the creative outlet and creative freedom!
2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?
I have so many brides in my portfolio, I lost count a long time ago! I have been doing makeup professionally since 2016 but had been doing it a long time before that for friends and family, 10 years now!
I am self taught but had the opportunity to work under another makeup company for a short time before I started my own. That's where I was taught how to do airbrush makeup and gained the on-the-job experience that I needed to branch off and start my own company.
3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?
I offer two packages:
The base package is the standard makeup and skin prep needed for flawless makeup! You'll get high quality name brand makeup, custom waterproof airbrush looks and premium lashes!
The premium package included everything in the base package but you'll get more skin care prep! You'll get face, eye and lip masks added for a more spa like experience added to your makeup!
I also offer several add-on packages:
You can get a touch-up kit add on! You'll get everything you need in your touch-up kit from powder to a lipstick sample that you choose.
Also, if you'd rather not worry about touching up your own makeup, you can book an hourly add on with me. I can stick around for as long as you need me for the day by the hour to touch up your makeup if needed!
4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?
I am the only regular makeup artist at Blushed Studios but if you have a larger party or need to get around in less time then needed, I do have plenty of go-to artists that I have met along my career path that I love and trust to get the job done just as well as myself. These are also the artists that I can call if I can't makeup it to your big day.
5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?
Yes I do have a travel fee if you are more that 30-40 miles away from the Detroit area! The distance depends on the added-on price. If you are over a 2 hour drive I do request an overnight stay at a nearby hotel as well as if you are out of the state of Michigan. Yes, I do travel to different states!
6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?
I do offer makeup trials before the big day at a discounted price! I always recommend a trial so we can make sure to get your makeup perfect and loving it! I also recommend doing a trial at least three months before your big day to make sure we have it just right!
7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?
I use a wide range of products in my kit but they are always high end and name brand. I go through a rigorous process when I want to add a new product to the kit, I really put it to the test before I use it on a client. I'll use it on myself as well as different friends and family with different skin types to make sure I know exactly how this product is going to work for you.
I also am open to a bride bringing her own makeup for me to apply. I understand that people have different skin issues and would rather use their own makeup they know and love.
8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?
This is why I always recommend doing a trial! We go through products that we think will work best with your skin type and if it doesn't work as well as we thought then we can find something that works better!
The airbrush makeup that I use in my kit is waterproof and tear proof (that's for most things in my kit, but you get it). This allows the makeup to stay all day and all night and honestly, all my brides say that the longer you wear the airbrush makeup the better it looks! I also make sure that I prep the skin according to your skin type that will help the makeup last all day!
9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?
For the bride I take longer, I'll take about 45 min. The bridal party and family will take about 30 min per person. I allow to have time at the end to do any touch ups or changes for anyone that wants them or needs them. How long I am there depends on how large your bridal party is but if you feel like you need more time then I do have an add-on package that I charge by the hour and can stay for as long as you need.
10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?
I understand that in these crazy times that things may need to be rescheduled so I do not charge a rescheduling fee or anything like that. I do however require a deposit for any services with me that is non-refundable. If you cancel the same week as your wedding without wanting to reschedule then the rest of the amount is still due in full.
If you have someone that does not show up to get their makeup done on the day of or decides they do not want their makeup done, they are still required to be paid in full.
