10 Questions with Pastor Carlos Sales

1. Introduction: What's your story?

I love working with couples and have performed hundreds of weddings in a variety of locations, and I have been performing weddings since 1995. I have been happily married to the love of my life; Lisa since 1987 and together we have three beautiful daughters and one son.

I worked full-time in three churches, ranging in size from 400 to 5,000 people in Orange and San Diego Counties, and lived in Southern California for many years. I am an ordained minister and I have been trained to do various ceremonies, as well as pre-marital and marital counseling.

I started a non-profit missions organization called Reaching the Hungry which supports missionaries around the world. To date (May 2021), Reaching the Hungry has installed over 100 water wells in Malawi and currently supports two orphanages (in Mexico and Malawi) and much more.

2. What's your experience as a wedding officiant? How many weddings have your officiated?

I have officiated over 600 weddings; in churches, on the beach, in parks, resorts, wineries, yachts, and even in a hot air balloon! I perform non-denominational Christian weddings and non-religious weddings as well. I have been officiating weddings since 1995 and currently serve the greater Southern California areas including San Diego, Riverside, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties.

3. How far in advance do couples need to secure your services?

I am pretty flexible as long as I am available. I recommend that couple's book me as soon as they have a date and a venue, so that I can get to know the couple and create a ceremony that is unique and fits their personalities. However, if I'm not available, I have a team of officiants that all have been handpicked by me, have great personalities, public speaking skills and most have over 20 years experience officiating weddings.

4. How would you describe your officiant style?

I feel honored and truly enjoy being a part of a couple's special day, and the smile on my face reflects the joy in my heart for them. I coach couples by sharing various ceremony options that I think would work for them. After they give me feedback of the options that they like I am able to create a ceremony that reflects them, is memorable and something that they would be excited about. I then schedule a time over the phone review their ceremony with them. This helps them show up on wedding day know what they ceremony will be like and being at easy. I also direct them through the ceremony on wedding day, so they can enjoy their ceremony and not have to think about what is next.

5. What are your fees for officiating a wedding?

I have a team of officiants and our fees range from $250- $650 based on various factors (i.e., day-of-week, time, location, wedding size, ceremony, officiant, etc.). Don't let a little extra cost keep you from hiring one of the best on your once-in-a-lifetime wedding day!

6. What do you wear when you officiate a wedding?

The couple gets to choose what they would like me to wear... suit, robe, or casual based on their style and ceremony feel. I have many different color custom tailored suits and ties to match their wedding party.

7. How many pre-wedding sessions will the couple need to have with you?

Before a couple books me; I typically meet with them for a free 30 minute consultation in person, or on phone/Zoom call to get to know each other, go over how I work with couples to create their wedding ceremony, and to answer any questions.

If the couple chooses to do pre-marital counseling, we will meet for a 2-hour session in person or on Zoom. I have the couple complete an excellent online counseling assessment tool called Prepare/Enrich before we meeting.

If they do not opt for pre-marital counseling, I send them their ceremony options about 30-45 days before the ceremony and after they have made their ceremony decisions we schedule a 30-45 minute ceremony review over the phone.

8. Will you be able to create a personalized ceremony?

All the wedding ceremonies that I write are custom ceremony that are fun, memorable, and reflects the couple in a special way.

I coach the couple by providing ceremony options that may work for their unique personality, ethnic or religious background, etc.

Additionally, I have written customized vows and pledges for many couples to suit their individual preferences and unique situations. Couples can repeat their vows after me, or write and read their own personal vows to each other.

9. Are you available to travel if needed?

I currently serve the greater Southern California areas including San Diego, Riverside, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties. However, I do travel to officiate weddings if necessary. I have traveled to Utah and South Carolina to officiate weddings.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

I usually work with couples if they need to reschedule their wedding to accommodate their needs.

The following cancellation policy applies to all contracts. Retainer ($150) is considered good-faith monies and is non-refundable at any time and is non-transferable within 45 days of event. Total balance is due 45 days prior to your event date and no refunds will be given if cancellation by client is made less than 45 days before the event date. If there is a cancellation by client prior to 45 days, client will receive a refund for payment toward services only (not retainer).
