10 Questions with Alex

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi,

I'm Alex, Owner of OFFICIANT NYC. My love for uniting couples started in the theatre. With over 30 years as a professional Actor, Director and Choreographer, Friends of mine on Broadway asked me to marry them. It was one of the most fulfilling days of my life, and I never looked back. The idea to be able to bring two people together, to write and craft their story, to present them in front of a room filled with loved ones, and lead the room with storytelling, and honor- is absolutely something I cherish.

2. What's your experience as a wedding officiant? How many weddings have your officiated?

After 13 years in the industry, I stopped counting at over 1000 weddings.
I have months where I can marry 20-30 couples & sometimes months where it's 5-10 couples.
It all depends on each and every situation, but each story- each couple- is filled with an interesting backstory. My joy is being able to meet people, to share their story, and unite them under the law- while celebrating their unique and individual union.
Every couple I have married, I have done with pride and joy.

3. How far in advance do couples need to secure your services?

Sometimes it's quick last minute elopements, and sometimes it's 2 years in advance.
The average seems to be one year.

4. How would you describe your officiant style?

Friendly, down-to-earth and joyous. My Theatre skills come in handy as I use nuanced diction, tone, delivery & add lighthearted humor from time to time, but also- respect and love for the couple I am working with. My goal, is always to treat each couple as if they were the first couple I ever married, which were my best friends. It involves energy, grace and humility. The power of the word is so important- but what's also important- is HOW it's delivered. I never bury my head in my book- but rather, speak to the room, learn my story and deliver a memorable ceremony that can hopefully remain in people's hearts and minds for a long time.

5. What are your fees for officiating a wedding?

The range based on size & scope.
An inquiry is always best.

6. What do you wear when you officiate a wedding?

My job is to disappear in your pictures. I never pull focus, and as a theatre and film/tv professional, I am highly intuitive to aesthetics, video and photography. I wear all black- so the couple can stand out in their photos and video. It's not about Me,... it's about the couple.

7. How many pre-wedding sessions will the couple need to have with you?

We have a thorough process through emails and consultations and unique ways to gather your story.
By the time the ceremony comes, the goal is to really feel comfortable and safe.

8. Will you be able to create a personalized ceremony?

Absolutely. That's our strength.

9. Are you available to travel if needed?

We travel within a mileage range, and have been known to travel outside our range for an additional stipend.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

All deposits are non-refundable- but on a case by case situation.
