10 Questions with Tiffany Gentry

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi, I'm Tiffany Gentry, owner + lead photographer at Tiffany J Photography.

Growing up, I always had my Kodak 35mm point + shoot camera in hand. While I had no idea about what I was doing in regards to exposure + composition, I did understand the importance of documenting fleeting moments. I hadn't thought of myself as an entrepreneur + honestly never considered owning my own business. But at the age of 25, life threw me a curveball. My partner at the time was hit by a car + was paralyzed from the waist down. After my family medical leave ran out, I had to quit my full-time job to take care of him. I soon realized that I would need a job with flexible hours that would work around his care. As I began to brainstorm potential career paths, I kept coming back to photography. It was always something I was passionate about but never had the opportunity to pursue. I took this as my sign from the universe, got my first DSLR camera + began immersing myself in learning the art of photography.

2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?

I've been shooting weddings for the past 7 years + I've photographed over 100 weddings.

3. How would you describe your photography style?

I would describe my photography style as fine art. I'm often asked what that means + while I'm sure every photography may have their own interpretation, the way I define a fine art photographer is someone with a trained eye who is carefully curates each shot to create classic, emotive, timeless images for you to cherish for years to come. My goal is always for my images to evoke emotion + in order to achieve that, I focus on elements such as my use of natural light, shallow depth of field (subject in focus, background blurred) + interactive posing. My editing style is film-like + tends toward the light + airy side of the spectrum.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?

The sooner the better when it comes to booking your wedding photographer. Weekends book up very quickly + often times we're booked at least a year in advance. Generally speaking, June - November are quite busy. While Spring + Summer used to be the busiest, over the past few years I've found that Fall has become my busiest season.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

My most popular collection is my Silver Collection, which includes:

8 Hours of Wedding Photography Coverage
2 Photographers
Complimentary Engagement Session. Includes 1.5 hour session with two outfit changes + two locations.
Online Viewing / Ordering Gallery
High Resolution Digital Downloads of your images. (You will receive approximately 75-100 edited, high-resolution images per hour of wedding day coverage)

$5,000

Additional hours are billed at $500/hour. A la carte add-ons include a fine art wedding album, duplicate parent albums, rehearsal dinner coverage, an additional photographer.

6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?

Now for the fun part. Your wedding day!! Depending on what collection you chose, you will most likely have 2 photographers - myself as the lead + my 2nd shooter. About 1 month prior to your wedding, I'll email you a questionnaire to make sure I have all of the information needed leading up to your big day. I'll also send you a reminder to set aside any important details you would like photographed. This may include items such as your jewelry, rings, shoes, dress, veil, bouquet, garter, perfume, invitation suite. For your groom it will be things such as his tie, cuff-links, boutonnière, socks, shoes, watch, pocket square, cologne. When we arrive, I'll head to your bridal suite while my 2nd shooter will head to the groom suite where we will both get started photographing your details. This will allow you a little extra getting ready time, so that by the time I'm done with your details, it will be the perfect time to get a few beautiful getting ready shots of hair + makeup, getting into your dress, etc. (*Bonus Tip* ask your florist ahead of time if they can bring a few extra loose blooms to use while styling your details. This will elevate these photos SO much + will make your gallery feel so beautiful + cohesive.)

During your consultation we'll chat in greater detail regarding your vision for your wedding day. I love hearing what your priorities are first + then we'll work together to make sure your photography timeline maximizes your photography coverage while also flowing seamlessly + creating the atmosphere you're envisioning.

Generally speaking I'll have 2 cameras on me at all times + each camera is equipped with dual card slots, meaning that there is a backup of every image to ensure that there are no glitches + that everything runs perfectly smoothly for you.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

I am based in Los Angeles, but am absolutely available to travel.

Travel fees are only incurred for destinations over 75 miles outside of Los Angeles. In order to allow time for me to scout your venue + get a good night's rest before your wedding, I ask that mileage + a 2 night hotel stay be covered.

8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?

Depending on what best suits your needs, albums are included in some of my collections + are always available as an a la carte addition. Prints can be conveniently ordered directly through your online viewing gallery.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?

You will receive your edited wedding images within 6-8 weeks. An email will be sent to you containing a link to your online viewing/ordering gallery which will contain your PIN for your high resolution digital downloads.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

I try to keep my booking process as simply as possible for my clients. In order to book, all I need is to receive your signed contract + your 50% booking fee. Your booking fee is non-refundable as it reserves me for your date which of course means I'll be turning down all other business on that date. Of course COVID has made life + events more complicated, so I'm trying to handle each request on a case by case basis.
