1. Introduction: What's your story?
I'm Matthew Foster and I cry at the drop of a hat and I'm ok with that. Actually, I love it. As different as one wedding may be from the next, the emotional intensity that courses through the day from start to finish is a thrill and an honor to get to witness and capture. And I absolutely love being a part of it all.
I started shooting weddings after Hurricane Katrina flipped so many weddings on their heads and I stepped in to fill the many gaps in couples' plans that often resulted. I quickly discovered how much I loved the beauty of the day, the pace of the day, the excitement and stress, the emotion and the love.
In 2010 I made this business my full-time career and haven't looked back for even a moment since.
2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?
I would estimate that I over the past ten or so years, I have photographed close to 500 weddings.
3. How would you describe your photography style?
Creative, with a unique emotional depth that is simultaneously fun and heartbreaking.
I'm definitely documentary, but when called upon, can also definitely step up to direct a moment when it's needed. But I do so with utmost friendliness, fun and warmth.
Although most of my day is just documenting your wedding as it unfolds before me, I'm actually also known for my editorial style group photos. Theyre sooo much fun to put together. But I keep everything quick, painless and light. No rolling eyes from groomsmen at my shoots.
4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?
The best time to book us is about a year out. We usually have most of our year laid out before us on Jan. 1 but there are sometimes holes. You should always check!
Our busiest months are March April May October and November. Saturdays in those months book out 12-18 months. Fridays are easier.
5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?
All our wedding day packages begin at 8 hours. I really love getting to tell the story from beginning to end and at most weddings, 8 hours accomplishes that.
the price for that is $3100 for me to shoot and $3600 for both me and my partner, Liz.
Should your schedule need extra time, that is $250/hr.
We also have different packages that include add-ons like wedding albums and portrait sessions but those can be added on during the year or even after the wedding if you like with no price penalty. The only decision that needs to be made with us is if you are having a smaller event and only need me. Or if you need me plus my partner, Liz.
6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?
I am the owner and the lead photographer.
If you elect to include my partner, Liz, she will shoot along with me (typically shooting the groomsmen prep and groom's family)
Liz and I each carry two cameras on us at all times.
7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?
Unfortunately our family situations prohibit Liz and I from traveling for a wedding. We typically stay in the New Orleans area but can go as far as Baton Rouge (80 miles) for a travel fee of $250
8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?
We have a wide selection of the finest albums we could find with that we design one on one with the client (no third party designers). It's a fun, easy process. We do have packages that include albums but you can always add one a la carte in the future with no price penalty.
9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?
We are pretty quick with our turnaround. 3 weeks is typical. We've never had anyone wait longer than 4 weeks.
10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?
$1000 deposit is not refundable. But you are not obligated to the balance. If you cancel the day before the wedding, you will have only lost your deposit.
