1. Introduction: What's your story?
Hi! I’m Emily, lover of colorful charcuterie boards, business books, subtropical weather and a challenging Peloton ride. I love a fresh sunrise, a just-released podcast episode and the way the ocean waves lap onto the Carolina shore as the seagulls call through the morning sky... After photographing portraits and weddings for over eight years in the midwest, I pulled up my roots and moved cross-country to Wilmington, North Carolina, in the summer of 2021. While everything around me has changed, what I believe has stayed the same: I believe in the kind of love that grows stronger over time and I know, more than ever before, the power in one photograph to change a life. I have a husband and two sons and my senses have been sharpened to the ability to transform a moment simply by noticing it. In the spaces that make up our home, the place where I most love to make things refreshing and beautiful, we cultivate and nurture the belief that there's nothing more important than our relationships. We believe love is worth waiting for, worth prioritizing and worth celebrating.
2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?
I've been shooting weddings since 2014 and have done around 100 since then. I've limited the amount of weddings I'll accept to just around 15 per year, because it's important to me that I'm able to work with each client from a healthy, balanced life, deliver quickly and show up to every wedding with reliable structures, fresh ideas and good energy.
3. How would you describe your photography style?
My work is earthy and elegant, relaxed but luxurious; bright and warm. I love portraits that feel natural and stir up good memories, so while I capture as much of the candid moments as possible, I also love to direct each of my clients through posing that draws out genuine feeling. I prefer natural light but am comfortable using flash whenever it is required. I like to keep editing bright while maintaining texture and contrast. My clients are confident, kind, purposeful and artistic and love portraits that reflects a classic approach, influenced by film.
4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?
Usually, my calendar is booking out anywhere between 9-18 months in advance. The most popular wedding weekends on the east coast are in the spring and fall, though I'm usually more flexible for elopements and destination weddings on weekdays.
5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?
Portrait and elopement collections range from $425-$700.
Every wedding collection starts with a base of at least eight hours of coverage and includes an online gallery with high-resolution, downloadable digital files, a print release and a complimentary engagement session. From there, couples can choose to add additional hours of coverage and their choice of album. The most popular package usually includes nine hours, an online gallery, a print release and an album. Wedding collections start at $3100 with the average investment being right around $4800.
6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?
I am the sole photographer, though I do offer the option of adding a second photographer for larger weddings or when there are additional locations or factors to consider.
7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?
I am based out of Wilmington, North Carolina, with a special place in my heart for many destinations along the Carolina coast, especially Charleston, SC. I am however still usually able to make room for at least one or two long-distance weddings a year, and Europe is top of the bucket list, so if you have plans to say your vows across the Atlantic, just way the word and I'll pack my bags!
For weddings that require flight, I will create a custom travel quote to bundle all travel expenses so you don't have to make any additional plans. Otherwise, for weddings that don't require flight and are more than 100 miles outside of Wilmington, I charge 0.56 per mile and enough to cover two nights' lodging.
8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?
Albums can be added to any wedding package and prints are always à la carte through my online galleries. They can be ordered anytime and will be delivered straight to your door!
9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?
I will post a sneak peek from your wedding within just 24 hours (because if you're anything like me, sneaks can not come soon enough, right?)! About three days later, I share a small collection of the best of your portraits in a blog post that give a more comprehensive look into your day for anyone that wasn't able to celebrate in person with you. Six to eight weeks after your wedding date (usually much sooner), you will receive your entire wedding collection via online gallery. I guarantee at least 60 photos per hour of shooting (though most galleries I deliver actually have 800+ images) and they will all be available to download immediately after delivery. You and anyone you share your link with with can also order prints directly through the gallery!
10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?
Because I turn away all other inquiries for your date as soon as it is secured, the 50% retainer is non-refundable. If your wedding is postponed and I am available for your new date, that retainer can be credited to your account for your new wedding date. If your wedding is postponed or canceled more than 30 days before your wedding, any payment made beyond the 50% retainer will be refunded.
