10 Questions with Laurie Steele

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi, I’m Laurie Steele, the founder and owner of Local Motion Productions. I started filming weddings five years ago, and I quickly realized that capturing the essence of true love was a profound privilege in my life. With a degree in video production and a deep passion for love stories, I strive to blend my technical skills with heartfelt storytelling.

I love getting down on the dance floor or staying up late to capture those intimate campfire stories. Whatever way you decide to celebrate your love, I’m there to document it all. Each wedding presents a unique narrative, filled with joy, laughter, and emotion, and I feel incredibly fortunate to create beautiful, authentic films that reflect the unique journey of each couple. I can’t wait to be a part of your special day!

2. How long have you been filming weddings? How many weddings have you filmed?

I have been filming weddings for 5 years of my 8 professional years. I have now filmed 20 weddings.

3. How would you describe your videography style?

I would describe my style as intimate and documentary. I try to film your day as it happens so that I can showcase the love between you and your partner but also the outpouring of love that friends and family give on wedding days. I try to cultivate intimate moments not stage them.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding videographer?

If wedding videography is important to you then you should book it around the same time as your photographer so 6-12 months out. Many photographers and videographers have preferred contacts to help you book both. It's great when we can work with vendors we are familiar with. However, not every couple plans their wedding for a year. I have no problem with booking weddings even a month out, but we need to make sure our communication is thorough since we have less time to get to know each other and answer any arising questions.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I offer 2 packages. The Micro Package is perfect for weddings of about 75 people or less and costs $1800. It includes 6 hours on site and many edits and clips of the day. The Standard Package is ideal for longer wedding days with more people and guests involved and costs $2500. It includes 10 hours on site giving us more than enough time to film getting ready clips through speeches and first dances.

I would say my Micro Package is popular. Lots of couples in Colorado opt for smaller scenic weddings, and the 6 hours generally covers all of the needs for that at a great price.

6. Are you the wedding videographer who will be filming on the wedding day? How many camera people and cameras will be operating on the day?

I am the videographer! If you book with me you get me. I typically do not bring a second shooter, but there are some pros to having one. I am always happy to discuss bringing a second shooter at an extra cost. I always bring multiple cameras. For pre-ceremony work I will usually carry one camera around on a stabilizer, I will add a second small camera on a tripod for things like first looks. For the ceremony and reception, I will have 2-3 cameras running for the events.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

If your venue is more than 60 miles from me I may charge a travel fee on the Micro Package only. My travel fees are subject to the distance but usually less than $100. No travel fees are charged on my Standard Package unless an overnight is required.

8. How do you back-up your footage to ensure no footage is lost and for how long do you keep the footage after the wedding?

All of my cameras record to 2 SD cards simultaneously to ensure that the footage is safe. Alternatively, having multiple cameras filming allows for different angles as well as safety, and lastly I keep your footage stored in 2 places during editing.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the video? And how will the video be delivered?

I like to say that you will have everything promised within 45 days, but I strive for sooner and try to communicate with you an estimated delivery by the 30-day mark. Video footage is delivered digitally via email and you will have at least 6 months to download your footage to personal devices.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

I require 50% of your total as a deposit and the rest by your wedding date. Cancellations forfeit their deposits, and events that need to be rescheduled have no extra fees provided I am still available for the date. I do not issue refunds unless an extra payment is made before the contracted date and there is a cancellation or unless I fail to show up.
