10 Questions with Laura and Doug Lewis

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi we are Laura and Doug!

We are a husband and wife team that starting filming weddings in 2009. Doug has a background in radio/tv production and Laura has been involved in the wedding industry since she was a kid. Her mom worked for an event decor company and she does custom wedding invitations as well as being the lead shooter when we film weddings! Having filmed over 250 weddings we have been a part of so many special days for so many couples...some of which have become life long friends. We have had the opportunity to film weddings in some of the most beautiful and elegant places. From the Dominican Republic, San Francisco, The Biltmore in Asheville, NC to the beautiful locations right here in our backyard including St. Augustine (the nation's oldest city) to the pristine beaches of Amelia Island.

Doug is a huge history buff and loves love capturing a couples moment in history for our couples. It's one of the biggest days in their lives and to have that moment on film. To be able relive all the emotions, feelings and moments of the day is very powerful. We love couples that are a little different, adventurous, and most importantly, see the importance of documenting their story and capturing that moment of their history!

2. How long have you been filming weddings? How many weddings have you filmed?

We started filming weddings in 2009 and as of this year we are over 250. That's a lot of first dances!!

3. How would you describe your videography style?

Our style is cinematic storytelling. Audio is one of the most important aspects of video. Without it, it's very hard to tell a story. That's why we pay special attention to capturing good clean audio to aid in helping tell our couples story. We like to focus more on people and less on things if that makes sense. Capturing mom's smile as her daughter gets dressed or the grooms tears as he sees his bride for the first time. One of the moments we always love to capture...and it happens at almost every wedding... is when the bride is coming down the aisle, the grooms mom will always turn and look at her son...it's a quick brief moment, but Laura is a pro at capturing it. It's those small moments, interactions, expressions that we love to capture.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding videographer?

Don't wait! Your videographer should be booked at the same time as your photographer. Dates fill up fast and you don't want to miss out or hire a videographer that doesn't meet your expectations. You can't return a bad wedding film. It's so important to have a complete an accurate story of your day and your film and photos will do that! We want couples that want video, that video is a priority for their wedding, not an afterthought... not "oh we have some money left over, so let's get a video" We want our couples to be as excited about their wedding film as we are creating it.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

We offer two different packages, but really love when our couples customize a package to fit their day. Every wedding is unique and we feel the wedding film package should be able to accommodate the uniqueness of the wedding day. Our base package includes 8 hours of coverage and an 8-10 minute cinematic film. We offer documentary style edits a la carte to ensure maximum flexibility when the couple designs their package. We also offer a Full FOMO package which includes everything. You get a Teaser Trailer, Cinematic Film, Documentary style edits of Ceremony, Toasts and Special dances. We also offer rehearsal dinner coverage. We recommend rehearsal dinner coverage for couples planning of having lots of speeches at their rehearsal dinner.

6. Are you the wedding videographer who will be filming on the wedding day? How many camera people and cameras will be operating on the day?

Yes! You get Laura and Doug as your exclusive videographers Our biggest compliment is "Oh we didn't even know you where here." We don't make big production out of your day. We try to be as minimal as possible while just documenting and allowing the story of your day unfold as it should. Too many vidhogprhers turn a wedding into a movie set and become a big distraction. We love working with photographers and always love to work together to make the couple the best possible product.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

North Florida is a large area and we feel we need to offer coverage of that region without a travel fee. We cover Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Palm Coast all the way up to the Golden Isles of Georgia including Jekyll Island, Sea Island and St. Simons Island. Of course we have film wedding at destination locations and it's a great adventure to do what you love and travel to beautiful locations to film couples in love! Travel fees are handled on a case by case basis, but we really try and keep the costs associated with travel to a reasonable level.

8. How do you back-up your footage to ensure no footage is lost and for how long do you keep the footage after the wedding?

We utilize both physical media and cloud storage to store our media. All flies are copied to two hard drives onsite and we keep another copy offsite. We keep the raw footage 1 year after after the wedding day and we do offer the option to purchase the "raw" footage. And by "Raw" it's everything we shot out of our cameras organized into folders...no editing! It's a real BTS look..lol

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the video? And how will the video be delivered?

If a couple elects for a Teaser Trailer, we provide that one week after the wedding. Perfect for sharing and posting on social media. Our full production process is about 8-12 weeks depending on the season. We work expeditiously, but don't want to rush something out the door just to meet a deadline. We want your wedding film to be perfect and we will take our time making sure it's the best it can be. Of course we communicate all of this during the post production process.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

In the age of COVID everything has changed. We have a non-refundable retainer that is used to save your date. This fee is non-refundable. If your wedding is cancelled because of local/state/federal mandates, then we will work with you to reschedule your date at a later time with no reschedule fee. If you decide to change your date, but your wedding could still take place on your original date, a $500 reschedule fee is applied. If you cancel your wedding all together outside of 30 days, we will refund any monies paid minus the non-refundable retainer. If you cancel within 30 days of your event, no refund will be given, but hopefully your event will be re-scheduled and we can proceed at normal.
