You will see many different wedding DJ prices, keep these points in mind and you will find the right one.
Cheap Wedding DJ Prices
These wedding DJs will usually be in the ranges of $85.00 an hour or less. Many of these wedding DJs are part time hobbyists. They may have no idea how to coordinate and deliver what you want at your wedding. Just call these companies/people and you will notice a huge difference with their customer service skills. This might be a risky deal because they may show up with low grade equipment (if they even show up at all). There is a small possibility that you can spend $300-$500 on your wedding DJ and be happy, but you have to understand what cheap wedding DJ prices really mean.
My Recommendation: Never hire a wedding DJ that costs less than your veggie tray
Average Wedding DJ Pricing
These wedding DJs may charge anywhere from $700-$1800. This category of wedding DJs are priced all over the place. There are many good DJs that are subcontracted by large DJ companies. However, these companies may be so large, that you might not know who will be your wedding DJ until the week of. Wedding DJ companies in this price range with less than 5-7 DJs that have great reviews are a much better bet!
There is a difference between a full-time company and part-time hobbyist. A full-time company depends on your referrals to generate future leads and business. This means that they are 100% dedicated to your wedding reception. The wedding DJ cost needs be looked at with their references. Ask for recent clients’ names, phone numbers, and e-mails. When I say recent, I mean 3 weeks or less when available. Any reputable company will be able to give you this information. Beware of Wedding DJs in this price range who have no past experience or verifiable reviews!
My Recommendation: Check for references, Make sure they are reputable. Google search them.
Expensive Wedding DJ Prices
These DJs may charge anywhere from $1800-$3000. There may be added value, such as an additional DJ/wedding coordinator, staging, dancers, or props. Most times, this price is determined by a DJ with an over inflated ego. If the wedding DJ cost is expensive, this does not mean that they have instant credibility. Usually some are larger wedding DJ companies that subcontract 15-25 wedding DJs every weekend. They improve their profit margin this way to support advertisements and overhead. (More DJs = larger profit margin) You should not have to take out a second mortgage to pay for your wedding DJ cost. If money is no object and sky’s the limit, you still need to verify their reputation.
My Recommendation: Get everything in writing, and question anything that may be overkill
So How Much Does a Wedding DJ Cost?
This depends on how comfortable you are with the lighting, experience, equipment, music, and fun options. You should try unique things because your wedding is far from ordinary. This does not mean you need to break the bank with wedding DJ prices, but see what OPTIONS are really worth the cost. The typical wedding DJ cost will vary between $700-$1800. In the short term, the wedding DJ price will be a small factor in your budget, and long term, 80% of the success of your wedding is based on the entertainment. If you want to have a great time, you should interview multiple companies.
My Recommendation: Stay away from the cheapest, don’t go with the most expensive.
