Hi there, I’m Tara! I founded Tara Heather Cake Design in 2010. It originally started as a boutique, cupcake only bakery (The Cupcake Corner) and later evolved into a custom cake & assorted dessert business (Sweet As Bliss). It wasn’t until 2019 where I made the decision to change my business name (for good this time;) to what it is now! To be perfectly honest, nothing I ever chose in the past truly felt like “me” and so after careful consideration, I finally found my true “home” and I couldn’t be any happier!
While I make a wide variety of desserts, I specialize in bespoke cakes delivering out of San Diego, California. With blissful customers spanning SoCal, what started as a dream became a flourishing reality.
A little insight to my personality…I am an ENFP which means I am a mixture of being intuitive, emotional, extraverted, turbulent, and yet prospective all at the same time. I am free spirited, independent, compassionate and love to connect with others.
I strongly believe in from scratch, made to order, handcrafted desserts created uniquely for each client. With a deep love for traveling, I love to incorporate many ingredients found around the globe during my travels (i.e. salt sourced from the Maras Salt Mines in Peru) as well as many local & organic ingredients when possible. With a background in health science, a certified yoga sculpt instructor and a daily lifestyle of eating an abundance of fresh foods, refraining from using hydrogenated oils and preservatives in my baked goods is most important! Some of the ingredients used in my recipes include: fresh vanilla beans, organic coconut milk & heavy cream, Bensdorp cocoa powder, and high quality, cake & organic pastry flours.
One of my favorite recipes, is my beet red velvet cake made from organic beets. This was carefully developed after years of wanting to eliminate artificial red dye in my classic red velvet cake. The use of beets + cocoa powder gives a beautiful deep burgundy hue…my favorite color btw;)
I also take great pride in accommodating a wide variety of special dietary requests (i.e. vegan, gluten-free, organic, reduced sugar). I started developing these recipes after my nephew, Caleb turned 1 when we discovered he had many severe food allergies and I wanted to be able to bake him some sweets he could actually enjoy without fear of an allergic reaction.
